Can Medical Cannabis Help with Migraines

Migraines are never fun to deal with, and a lot of people struggle to handle them. Medical marijuana and migraines are actually good to work together with, and they offer different side effects. Using these drugs that they offer does create pain relief, but it also causes another thing.  It creates dependency, and some pretty nasty side effects. May medical cannabis be the solution that you’re looking for? Perhaps, and here we’ll go over what medical cannabis can do for those who have migraines.

The studies Regarding This

Migraines are something that a lot of people have struggled with for a long time, and it’s actually something that was used for millennia to treat various conditions. But only recently did researchers understand the way that marijuana can induce pain relief, nausea, and various other symptoms, including blurry vision, dizziness, and the like. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence that comes from people who do claim that medical cannabis can help with nausea, and there is a lot of science behind this.

Back in 2001, a doctor by the name of Dr. Ethan Russo, did look at the research, and the records that mentioned the use of marijuana and cannabis to help with migraines for a long time. it was discovered that this actually may be a great way to treat migraines. Then, about a decade or so later, the national academies of engineering, sciences, and medicine did find that the cannabinoids within cannabis are a great way to treat this in older people.

There are other studies that have been done during the last couple of decades. Here’s a few things from each of them. First, was a study that was done back in 2016 by an institution that looked at people using cannabis to tret the migraines. It was found that almost everyone who did this did feel a reduction of the migraines, only having about four of those monthly.

There was also a study in 2019 that also looked at this. Almost all of the patients that got a blend that was very heavy in THC rather than CBD did feel a relief from the headaches, and almost half of them did feel a reduction in the migraines that they had over the months. Not just that, it improved their anxiety, sleep, and created a much better mood.

There was also a study that was done in 2019 that did publish in the journal of pain that reported over 50% reduction for those who had severe migraines and reduced this by about half as well.  There was also a study that looked at it back in July of 2020 that also showed that those who did smoke marijuana and suffered from migraines found relief within a couple of hours.

Then there was a study that was done in September of 2020 that assessed over 10,000 different people who had migraines. They used an app that showed that about 82% of these people were able to experience relief through the use of medical cannabis. So yes, it can help, and a lot of people do find that cannabis can be the solution to migraines, offering innumerable relief for these various problems. This can be quite good.

The best way to have this is something that's quick and works well. Vaping and smoking, or taking this sublingually are usually the ideal ways, especially if the migraine works fast, and this early on. It’s important to look for strains that work for you too and choose from there the best ways to possibly consume it.
